Status: Seasonal / Full-Time / Part-Time (depending on needs)
Pay Rate Range: $16.50 – $18.00
Availability Limits: Evenings, weekends, and holiday availability required
Position Summary
The Equipment Tuner at Swain Resort is responsible for tuning, maintaining, and repairing customer ski and snowboard equipment in our Retail Shop. This position performs quality service while safely operating tuning equipment and ensuring each job is completed accurately and on time. The Equipment Tuner also assists with general Retail Shop operations and provides friendly, knowledgeable customer service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Tune and repair customer skis and snowboards, including waxing, sharpening edges, base repairs, and other routine maintenance.
- Inspect equipment and determine appropriate tuning or repair services.
- Safely operate and maintain ski and snowboard tuning tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Complete customer work accurately and within expected turnaround times.
- Maintain a high level of care when handling customer-owned equipment.
- Communicate with customers regarding equipment services, repairs, and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment received, services requested, and completed work.
- Keep the tuning area, tools, equipment, and workspaces clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow all established safety procedures when operating tools and machinery.
- Assist with general Retail Shop operations and customer service as needed.
- Communicate effectively with Retail Shop staff and management.
- Report equipment problems, safety concerns, or unusual repair needs to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Retail Manager or General Manager.
Qualifications
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- Previous ski or snowboard tuning experience preferred; training may be provided.
- Basic knowledge of ski and snowboard equipment preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to safely operate tools and mechanical equipment.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
