Pay Rate Range: $15.50–$18
Availability Limits: Weekend, evening, and holiday availability may be required
Position Summary
The Snowmaker at Powder Mills Park is responsible for producing and maintaining high-quality snow to support safe and enjoyable skiing conditions throughout the winter season. This role plays an essential part in mountain operations by operating snowmaking equipment, monitoring weather conditions, and working in outdoor winter environments as part of a small, dedicated team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain snowmaking equipment including guns, hoses, valves, and hydrants.
- Adjust water and air settings to achieve desired snow quality based on weather conditions.
- Set up, move, and break down snowmaking equipment safely throughout the ski area.
- Monitor changing temperatures, humidity, and wind, and communicate updates to supervisors.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance of snowmaking equipment.
- Follow all Monroe County and Powder Mills safety policies, including OSHA guidelines.
- Work efficiently both independently and as part of a team, often during evening or overnight shifts.
- Assist with slope preparation, snow distribution, and other on-hill tasks as assigned.
- Maintain clear communication with the Assistant Manager and other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Powder Mills Assistant Manager or Parks Manager.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme winter weather (cold, wet, windy, and icy conditions).
- Strong physical endurance; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs and perform physical labor.
- Mechanically inclined or familiar with equipment operation preferred.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and potential overnight shifts.
- Prior snowmaking, outdoor labor, or maintenance experience is a plus.
