Location: Swain Resort – Swain, NY
Status: Seasonal / Full-Time / Part-Time (depending on needs)
Pay Rate Range: $16.50-$18.00
Availability Limits: Weekend and Holiday availability required
Position Summary
The Snowboard Instructor at Swain Resort is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and enjoyable snowboard lessons to guests of all ages and skill levels. Instructors create a positive learning experience that builds confidence, encourages skill progression, and promotes a lifelong love of snowboarding — all while embodying Swain Resort’s welcoming and professional atmosphere.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach snowboard lessons in accordance with Swain Resort and AASI (American Association of Snowboard Instructors) standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Assess student abilities and tailor lessons to meet individual goals and learning styles.
- Provide a safe and supportive learning environment, focusing on fun and progression.
- Communicate clearly and positively with students, parents, and fellow instructors.
- Ensure all students are properly equipped and understand mountain safety guidelines.
- Assist with lesson organization, check-in, and group management as needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and uphold resort service and safety standards.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and on-snow clinics to improve teaching skills.
- Support resort events, group lessons, and school programs when assigned.
- Promote additional resort services to enhance the overall guest experience.
Qualifications
- Strong snowboarding ability with solid understanding of riding fundamentals and mountain safety.
- Previous teaching, coaching, or guest service experience preferred, but not required.
- AASI certification or willingness to pursue certification is encouraged.
- Positive, patient, and enthusiastic attitude with a passion for working outdoors.
- Must be dependable and available to work weekends, holidays, and peak periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions for extended periods.
